EDL 2 & DRA 2
EDL2 measures comparable reading behaviors in the areas of reading engagement, oral reading fluency, accuracy and comprehension.  The DRA2 measures the same behaviors in English. The assessments break down skill and strategies in early grades to help focus on instructional areas. The students are asked to preview or predict before reading. Running records are taken to observe problem solving on text, accuracy, and fluency rates and expression and phrasing. Once the text reading is completed students are asked to retell, make connections, respond to a reflection question or to use text features. The teacher then uses a rubric to analyze the information to determine the student's’ independent reading level and areas of strength and then need to set an instructional focus.
