What is a Community School?

A Community School is a neighborhood hub that supports students, families and neighbors by providing access to community supports such as academic, emotional, health and social services. Community Schools lead to improved student learning and attendance, stronger families, and healthier communities.

Howe Elementary Community School will Provide:

-A curriculum that offers learning experiences that improve educational outcomes and student achievement
-An emphasis on quality instruction that is innovative, fun and relevant, and emphasizes real-world experiences
-A commitment to parent and community engagement
-A school leadership team that includes families, students, teachers, and community partners led by a community school coordinator

The Community School Difference

The District is fortunate to have deeply committed community partners for all of its schools. As a community school, Howe Elementary has core partners to assist in ensuring the social, emotional, physical, mental and academic needs of students, families and the neighborhood are met.

Brown County United Way will serve as the anchor partner, whose role is to assist the District in the development of Howe Elementary as a community school. The Howe Community Resource Center will serve as a lead partner providing the day-today support to assist families and the neighborhood to access community partner opportunities.
