Posted on 01/13/2020
Students at Edison family nightIn January, Edison Middle School’s incoming sixth grade bilingual students along with current bilingual students and their families were invited to Edison to celebrate bilingualism and learn about improved bilingual programming at the middle school level. Families learned about their scheduling choices, enjoyed music, a dance performance and had the opportunity to meet other families.

The Green Bay Area Public School District is deeply committed to bilingual education, and are expanding the offerings at the middle school level.

At Edison and Franklin Middle Schools, the District will have the following course options for middle school students for the 2020-21 school year:

Sixth grade
Bilingual Language Arts
Bilingual Science AND/OR Bilingual Social Studies

Seventh Grade
Bilingual Language Arts
Bilingual Science AND/OR Bilingual Social Studies

Eighth Grade
Spanish World Language (Spanish 3, 4 or 5)

Students attending the bilingual program at Baird Elementary will have the option to continue the program at Edison Middle School.

The advantages of bilingual education are numerous. Bilingualism has a positive effect on intellectual growth, it enriches and enhances a child’s cognitive development, and increases competitiveness in the political, business and educational communities.
