Board of Education Recognizes Individuals who Made Significant Contributions to the District, Students, and Community

The Board of Education and District administration presented three awards to individuals who have made significant contributions to the District, GBAPS students and the greater community, at the June 26 meeting. 


Dr. Jeffrey Rafn, President of the Northeast Wisconsin Technical College, received the Champion of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Award, which recognizes an individual, organization, or group whose leadership, acts, or support have demonstrated outstanding commitment and made significant contributions in advancing diversity, equity and inclusion within the Green Bay Area Public School District and/or greater Green Bay community.


“Dr. Rafn’s commitment over the years to Green Bay Area Public School District students has resulted in our students having greater access to dual credit courses and removal of barriers to higher education,” Board President Laura McCoy said. “Dr. Rafn, your legacy will be one of commitment to ensuring that all truly means all. We are grateful for your leadership and partnership in developing pathways for all students to find success.”


Denise Gaumer Hutchison received the Friend of Education Award, which is bestowed upon an individual, organization, or group whose leadership, acts, or supports have significantly benefited the Green Bay Area Public School District, its employees, and/or students.


“Denise is a passionate supporter of the District and all the students and families it serves,” McCoy said. “Her contributions will have a lasting impact on our District and community.”


Dr. Judy Wiegand received the Shining Star Award which recognizes “the brightest stars are those who shine for the benefit of others.”
“Dr. Wiegand was a stabilizing force, whose presence ensured that the good work of our education team and schools continued,” McCoy said. “She was a champion for student success, and worked tirelessly to ensure academic achievement was at the center of our decision-making.”
