West High School students create snowflakes for Austin Straubel Airport contestWest High School has been chosen as the winner of this year’s Holiday Tree Decorating at Austin Straubel Airport contest, hosted by the GRB Arts Program.

West High School students have been tasked with creating glass snowflakes that will adorn the beautiful, 20-foot holiday tree that will be displayed at the Austin Straubel Airport this holiday season.

West High School Art teacher Annie Larsen submitted the winning concept for the tree decorating contest, which included covering the tree with lights and sparkling, glass snowflakes.

As the winner, West High School received $2,000 to go towards the supplies needed to bring Larsen’s concept to life. Students are now in the process of creating the glass snowflake ornaments.

The judges of the tree decorating contest also awarded King Elementary School and Aldo Leopold Community School second place prizes. For placing in the contest, each school will have their own 10-foot tree to decorate with their idea.

The holiday trees will be on display at the Austin Straubel Airport starting November 27th through early January.
